Daynote - Wed 8th May 2024

I’m trying a new thing, based on a few other blogs and newsletters I read - daynotes.

So, what is a daynote? You’ll note it’s not a daily note, implying every day, because a) I’m not sure I’d be able to stick to that and b) that might get pretty dull, pretty fast. It’s a daynote’, a note of the day. I have thought about doing this before, but never really followed through. But the more I see other writers and bloggers posting regularly, the more I think I’d like to do something similar - externalise a bit more of my writing practices, experiments and setbacks, so I’m not just living an online highlight reel kind of life.

Sometimes the daynote will be a link or a video, sometimes a short status report on what I’ve been doing writing-wise, sometimes an image (if I can figure out a quick and easy way to format and post images with Blot). I’ll always include what I have ON DECK at any given moment and what’s UP NEXT for me. And I’ll maybe add additional headings over time.

ON DECK: A decent morning’s draft before work today, 1,281 words on PROJECT SHARD. I was writing a new scene to extend and deepen some of the context for the events that happen later in the book. It was a good scene to write, nice and tense.

UP NEXT: More editing on SHARD - it’s a 3 part novel and I’m about a third of the way through Part 2. I’m aiming to pick up the pace a little bit because there’s outlining to be done in the not-too-distant future.

I’ll also aim to post these first thing, rather than halfway through the afternoon. But I figured for the first one I needed a little explanation. Let’s see how this experiment goes.
