Daynote - Fri 12 Dec
Oh hey Friday.
Still recovering from my London trip, so I've been having some end-of-year lie-ins and it's been rather nice. I will head back into the woods next week to end the working year strong, but for now it's been a run of chill mornings.
ON DECK: Getting properly into the Scrivener outline now - I've added a couple of bits of custom metadata to (roughly) track day and approximate time. I'll use Aeon Timeline to do a detailed timeline later on in the process, but these metadata fields mean that I can outline directly in Scrivener and see approximately when things happen relative to each other, without having to make or refer to another thing. But it's all starting to come together now.
LISTENING: Huge congratulations to the Page One Podcast lads, Tariq and Marco, for hitting 250 episodes today! And an excellent guest they have as well, talking to Joe Hill about King Sorrow.
Listen at the link above, or watch it on Youtube.
WATCHING: We decided to give DOWN CEMETERY ROAD a go last night. It's got that trademark Mick Herron dialogue but it's quite a different vibe from SLOW HORSES, even though both are Apple shows. It also had a very jam-packed first episode.
READING: Still reading my friend's novel. I suspect I won't be reading anything I can talk about until next week at the earliest.
LINK: I was really chuffed to see three writer friends show up in this article from The Herald, covering five crime writers to watch out for in 2026. Congrats to Tariq Ashkanani, Claire Wilson and Callum McSorley!
UP NEXT: Next week is my last working week of the year, both for the day job and the writing (though I may noodle a bit in notebooks over the break, it's a bit of a compulsion). So I'm aiming to make a start on the drafting of Project VAULT, outline a short story I've been asked to write and otherwise put the year to bed in various spreadsheets and plans.
Onward!
