Short bio - 50 words

David Goodman is an award-winning, multi-genre Scottish author. 

A RELUCTANT SPY won the 2025 McDermid Debut Award and Bloody Scotland Debut Prize. SOLITARY AGENTS was longlisted for the 2026 McIlvanney Prize. 

His debut science fiction novel, SHARDS OF STARLIGHT, as David W. Goodman, is forthcoming in Autumn 2027 from Solaris.

David Goodman is an award-winning, multi-genre Scottish author. His debut novel A RELUCTANT SPY won the 2025 McDermid Debut Award and Bloody Scotland Debut Prize and was optioned for television by Carnival Films. The sequel SOLITARY AGENTS was longlisted for the 2026 McIlvanney Prize.

His SF debut, SHARDS OF STARLIGHT, as David W. Goodman, is forthcoming in Autumn 2027 from Solaris. He also has several published short SF stories and novelettes.

David was born and brought up in Edinburgh and East Lothian, before living and working in Aberdeen and London. He now lives in East Lothian with his wife Valerie.

David was born and brought up in Edinburgh and East Lothian, before living and working in Aberdeen and London. Over the years, he's been a reservist, barista, accounts payable clerk, bartender, IT consultant, copywriter, digital project manager, outdoor skills instructor and now UX designer for a major UK bank. Throughout, reading and writing have been and remain his twin obsessions. He now lives in East Lothian with his wife Valerie.

David is represented by Harry Illingworth at DHH Literary for his literary work, and Emily Hayward-Whitlock of The Artist's Partnership for film and television.
