Drawing things to a close.

The tide of the year is rolling out rapidly. It's my last working day of the year, both for my day job and my writing (sort of, more on that below). I was in town yesterday and it was a long day out of the house, so this morning I took things slowly and spent a bit longer writing. It was a nice way to finish things off.

ON DECK: A very solid 2,468 (which is a pleasing number) this morning, with two new scenes written on Project VAULT. It's definitely picking up pace now and I'm settling into the story in a very encouraging way.

TOOLS AND PROCESS: Of course, I am about to down tools for end of the year. However, I'm very close to exactly doubling my total word count from last year (within about 3,000 words just now) so I might just see if I can do a couple of short sessions in the next few days before I really, truly finish up writing. It would be a huge mental boost to achieve that particular milestone.

And, also, I'm enjoying the story! If I stop dead now until January then it might be pretty tough to get rolling again. I do want to take a proper break (they are very important and I have not been a 'write every day' person for years), but I do kind of want to keep one toe in the water and hit that milestone if I can. So, a bit of sneaky writing, here and there, just to keep the keyboard warm.

LISTENING: The Page One Christmas Special episode has become something I really look forward to. And this year is a cracker (pun intended) with Fiona Cummins, C.L. Taylor and Ed Burns. I'm really curious about the drafting method Ed and Tariq talk about early in this episode.

WATCHING: Another episode of THE DIPLOMAT last night, which I'm still enjoying a great deal.

READING: I'm about 100 pages from the end of my friend's book and have absolutely no idea where it's going.

LINK: I've been enjoying John Scalzi's 'December Comfort Watch' blog series and today's entry on Starship Troopers is a cracker.

UP NEXT: A tiny, tiny bit more writing, spread over the next few days. And I'll be doing a bit of roundup stuff on this website, just to really finish off the year.

Then, time off with family and friends and probably some time spent horizontal on the sofa. Can't bloody wait.

Onward!
