Daynote - Fri 29 Aug
A bit of Friday pitchwriting.

I'm still a little knackered after the push to the finish on the SOLITARY AGENTS edit and a few other concurrent things, so I had a bit of a lie-in this morning, then some gentle pitch-writing.
I was very pleased to see that the last day of the Audible 2-for-1 sale did really well for A RELUCTANT SPY - the high water marks that I spotted were #83 in the overall Bestsellers chart and #28 for the Mystery, Crime and Thriller category.

It may have gone higher, but I didn't manage to spot it. In any case I'm delighted to have spent the best part of a month hanging out in the Bestseller charts. Thank you to everyone who picked it up as part of this sale.
ON DECK: 60 words on the pitch - it was a short session this morning (as I got up late) and there was a good deal of window-staring, but the pitch is starting to come together, in my head at least.
I used to worry more about the post-edit/draft crash and panic a bit that I needed to get straight into another draft or risk losing 'momentum', but these days I've started factoring it in as just another step in the process. For 2-3 days after finishing a draft or a big edit, my head will be mush, so best to just do low word count stuff like pitch writing, or just some admin, or (gasp) take a short break.
LISTENING: I enjoyed this interview with Elodie Harper on the Page One Podcast this morning, another fascinating route into publishing (and testimony of the power of writing what you really want to read).
WATCHING: No telly as I was out of the house last night, but I suspect we'll finish off HOSTAGE over the weekend and catch up with ALIEN: EARTH as well.
READING: More of Adam Simcox's TIME WARPED yesterday and it's got a heck of an early book hook, even once you've considered the premise. Cracking stuff.
LINK: Loved this dual interview with literary agents Nelle Andrew and Sue Armstrong over at The Honest Editor.
UP NEXT: I've got an exciting podcast interview tonight (part of the Bloody Scotland buildup) then I'm out and about this weekend, before a (hopefully) fairly routine week next week, at least on the writing front. I'm guessing I'll have my two pitches written by mid-week then I'll go back to PROJECT DRIFT until SOLITARY AGENTS comes back to me for either further edits or copyedits.
Onward!
