Daynote - Fri 4 Jul
Once more into the weekend, dear friends.

A somewhat muted 4th of July good wishes to my American friends and family. It's a worrying and frightening time for many of them and I hope today has some glints of light in this period of overall darkness.
ON DECK: Still getting my head back in the game, a fairly small 158 words this morning. When I'm outlining I do a lot of adding a paragraph, muttering 'no, that's crap', deleting, adding again. So I probably actually wrote a thousand words or so this morning, going back and forth. Ended up with three new bullets I'm happy with. Sometimes things take a while 🤷♂️.
LISTENING: Loved this episode of one of my favourite gaming podcasts, Triple Click, where they interview games and TV writer Tom Bissell, whose most recent work was on Andor Season 2.
WATCHING: A couple more episodes of THE BEAR last night. Ooft. Powerful stuff, impeccably made.
READING: A bit more POWER OF THE DOG last night, still loving it.
LINK: I liked this thread from John Bull on Bluesky talking about being 'pony famous', i.e. well-known among a very narrow slice of society. I've gone from being Just Some Guy last year in every context in my life to someone who gets 'clocked' by readers of my books and stories in specific contexts (book festivals, some bookshops, SF conventions) and the imposter syndrome is still extremely strong when someone recognises me. So this was good to read.
UP NEXT: I've got a podcast interview tonight, then a weekend with family coming up, which is very welcome after the last few weeks of hectic travel and events, and the upcoming next few weekends of the same. I should also be getting some edit notes back in the next wee while, but in the meantime I'll keep gently pushing this outline forward.
Onward!
