Daynote - Mon 15 Dec
Back to the beach.
Finally back to the regular routine today, just in time for the end of the year and the beckoning formless run of days around the festive break. Still, it was very nice to get out. Deer lolloping through the bracken, geese flying overhead, cool wind and friendly Labradors. Perfect.
ON DECK: This morning I made a start on Project VAULT, with 1,136 words and the first scene completed. I'm still fiddling with the outline, but I think I have enough runway to draft for this last working week of the year, then I can complete the outline fiddling before making a start in earnest next year. But I definitely want to get a reasonable word count under my belt this side of Christmas.
LISTENING: I really enjoyed this interview with fellow McDermid Award shortlister Chris Bridges, over on Quick Book Reviews.
WATCHING: Bit of PLURIBUS on Friday - a vintage bit of Vince Gilligan pacing and juxtaposition of storylines. And a brilliant ending.
READING: Still working on my friend's book and still going strong. It's just passed an interesting tipping point about halfway through.
LINK: An excellent post from The Honest Editor on what a typical working week looks like for a senior editor. I'm endlessly fascinated by the mechanics of publishing and how it all happens, so this post was like catnip for me.
UP NEXT: More drafting on Project VAULT is the priority. I've got my Pacemaker plan all set up and (one day in), I'm still on track, haha. Long may it continue.
Onward!
