Daynote - Thu 15 May
A pause among the trees.

No haar coming in from the Firth of Forth this morning, just absolutely glorious sunshine. My cat woke me up at half four because he can't read clocks and just goes by the sunrise, so I ended up sleeping a little late and nearly skipped my walk as a result, but I'm very glad I got out. Pictured is a particularly nice spot about a third of the way through my walk where I often pause for a moment on sunny days.
Here's roughly the same spot a few years ago, in the depths of winter:

That's why I never get bored with my morning walk. It's different every single time.
ON DECK: A good session this morning. More up-and-down sentence-by-sentence cutting and adding, cutting and adding. The net result was -90 words removed, but the progress was about seven chapters. So I'm over halfway through Part 2 now and I'm pretty sure I'll finish it tomorrow. It's going well.
LISTENING: It's launch day for Remi Kone's INNOCENT GUILT and she's on The Conversation with Nadine Matheson this morning. Excellent stuff. I know I'm posting a lot of Conversation links recently, but she's got a seriously good lineup of guests.
WATCHING: First episode of the last trio of ANDOR episodes and ooft, brutal. We're eking the last three episodes out as long as we can, because we don't really want it to be over. Such good TV. Avoiding spoilers is the main challenge at the moment.
READING: As above, more INNOCENT GUILT. I'm nearly finished with it and I have no idea how it's going to end. It's out today, if you like the sound of it.
LINK: Couldn't agree more with this searing blog post from Emma Newman on the creeping AI enshittification of everything. Worth a read.
UP NEXT: Two weeks and one day until this book is due and I'm in the pipe, five-by-five. Feels pretty good. But I suspect a tiny bit of weekend writing might creep in, just as a backstop to that confidence. We'll see how we go.
Onward!
