Daynote - Thu 3 Jul

Better late than never.

Myself and Iain MacGregor on stage at the Harbour Chapel

A very late daynote today, I got involved in various things early in the day and completely spaced writing my usual post, which was a bit annoying give yesterday included a great event that I wanted to talk about.

The Harbour Chapel in Dunbar is an amazing venue and I had a wonderful time on stage interviewing Iain MacGregor, author of THE HIROSHIMA MEN (UK) alongside other fantastic history books. The wonderful Rebecca from Night Owl Books put the event together and did an amazing job. Authors take note - if you want an engaged audience, a passionate bookseller and the chance to speak in an amazing venue, drop Rebecca an email.

Iain and I mid-conversation

ON DECK: A cheeky 232 words on the outline this morning. My blank page-staring yesterday has resolved into something resembling narrative momentum. Huzzah.

LISTENING: I thought this interview with publishing industry commentator Jane Friedman on the Write Now With Scrivener podcast was excellent.

WATCHING: Nothing watched last night due to the event above, but I suspect we'll finish off THE BEAR tonight.

READING: Also no reading last night (got back too late) but back on THE POWER OF THE DOG tonight.

KIT: One of the things I noticed when we were wandering around Stockholm last week is that my back and shoulders really don't like wearing a heavy messenger bag for 6-8 hours of street walking and museums. But if I take my big old commute backpack from when I last worked in an office, I tend to fill it with crap and end up with a sore back anyway.

So after some research I've settled on the Osprey Daylite 13L daypack. It's fairly small, but it's very comfortable and can carry a laptop (suitably sleeved) in the hydration system pocket if required. I used it for the first time last night and it was great. At full price it's quite a lot, but it's very, very often on sale up to 40% off if you look around. Recommended.

LINK: Comics creator Dave Cook has posted a really good guide to running a comics kickstarter. Worth a read for anyone thinking of crowdfunding to be honest.

UP NEXT: Back on the outline tomorrow, plus a podcast interview for Bloody Scotland tomorrow night.

Onward!
