Daynote - Tue 20 May
Slipping into the final furlong.

It was cold and cloudy this morning and I was really enjoying the edit, so I kept going. I try not to do that for too many days in a row, because missing more than a day or two makes me grumpy. But it paid off this morning.
ON DECK: Today's longer writing session got me a very decent -528 words cut, eight scenes fully edited, and I'm now halfway through Part 3, so bang on target for this edit. It's starting to come together in a really satisfying way. And I'm past the halfway point for the novel as a whole, which is a good feeling.
LISTENING: I really like the podcast In Haste, and this latest episode on overcoming a reading drought was very timely.
WATCHING: Watched a bit of RACE AROUND THE WORLD over the weekend. I absolutely love this show. Seriously, give it a watch, it's one of the best produced semi-reality shows I've ever seen. And the thoughtful approach to interpersonal drama and the very real stresses and strains of long-distance, low-budget travel is so well done.
READING: I started on BELIEVE, by S.M. Govett last night and rolled through fifty pages pretty swiftly. I'm on a panel with Sarah at Capital Crime next month and, like Remi Kone's INNOCENT GUILT, which I also read for that panel, it's a bit of a departure from my usual reading. But it's compelling stuff.
LINK: This is a really interesting breakdown from Kathleen Schmidt about what it actually costs to run a publicity campaign.
UP NEXT: I can feel myself settling into the groove for the final push to the end on PROJECT SCARLET. If I was attacking the Death Star, I'd be about to start the trench run. Hopefully I won't get picked off by any TIE fighters.
But I'm pretty close. And with the end of one project comes the ever-present background question - what am I going to write next? This book will boomerang back to me several times, for further edits and checks and proofreading. But as of next week, I'll have a clear calendar and I haven't yet picked a project. Decisions, decisions.
Onward!
