Daynote - Wed 17 Dec

Dark mornings, bright lights.

A rocky foreshore, grey skies and Edinburgh in the distance

Another lovely walk this morning. Some days it looks like you could swim over to Edinburgh in ten minutes and other days it looks like its fifty miles away. Atmospheric lensing of some kind, I expect, but it's always strange and wonderful how different the views and weather and light is. I must have done this walk a couple of thousand times since we moved here, and it's different every day.

ON DECK: A decent session this morning, with 1,032 words drafted. I cut a previous scene in half and put two new, short scenes between it. I'm working through a number of rapid POV shifts in the opening chapters and it's a lot of fun slipping into the voice of each character.

LISTENING: Another excellent Coode St Podcast Advent Calendar episode, this time with British SF legend Alastair Reynolds.

WATCHING: We watched the first episode of the third season of THE DIPLOMAT last night and really enjoyed it. The speed, tension and dialogue are top notch, even if the actual situations are kind of over the top.

READING: More of my friend's book last night and it's taken a radical and very intriguing turn. Fascinated to see where it goes.

KIT: I got some vouchers recently and I was looking around for a new powerbank, since I'll be out and about over the festive season and doing more travel next year. And I really wanted one that worked with MagSafe on my phone, so I didn't have to faff around with cables. Anker, usually a good bet for commodity electronics, do a very slimline MagSafe one (affiliate link) that I've ordered. It's less capacity than my current, larger one but I think I'll use it more, because it's smaller and thinner and doesn't need cables.

LINK: A new Spielberg movie? About aliens? With weird glowing lights, crop circles and Emily Blunt making ominous clicking noises? Er, yes please!

UP NEXT: Only a couple of more working days left in the year and happily I'm on track to hit my target for the week. Then it will be time to tot up the numbers for the whole year, take stock, crack open the mince pies and get out the cheese board, for the festivities will be upon us.

Onward!
