Daynote - Wed 20 Aug

Slicing and dicing.

Green woodland with a grey sky and a path

Hello hello, another Wednesday arrives and we're 2/3rds of the way through the month of August. It continues to be cool and autumnal here in Scotland, which is frankly lovely. It's supposed to be a bit warmer over the weekend, but not too hot. Perfect.

ON DECK: A very decent -364 words and 30ish pages worked through. I'm making very good progress and approaching the halfway point of the book, which is a good place to be, with the deadline I have. The latter half of the book is fairly fast-moving, so I suspect I'll get through it pretty quickly.

My 'quiet' August remains quiet on the public front, with no events planned aside from sneaking into bookshops to sign copies, but in the background I've got at least three calls, interviews and meetings booked in the next week, I'm speaking to four different people about upcoming events and I'm getting all my ducks in a row for my accountant. So even when I'm having a calmer month, the job of being an author never stops. I wouldn't have it any other way, but it can be overwhelming at times.

LISTENING: I've been listening to the Scriptnotes podcast for years and this week they reached episode 700, which is a staggering number. And the episode is a really good live call-in show. If you have even a passing interest in screenwriting, it's an invaluable show, even though it's US-focused.

WATCHING: More of DEPT. Q last night. It's in the mid-point of the series where the mystery starts to unravel a bit and it's got a lot of flashbacks to keep track of, but I'm enjoying it a lot still.

READING: More of BERLIN WOLVES yesterday. One of those books where I have absolutely no idea where it's going but I'm happily along for the ride.

LINK: A great interview with CL Hellisen on Runalong The Shelves.

UP NEXT: Edits, exciting phone calls, an interview on my lunchbreak, a birthday dinner this evening and more. It's a busy week.

Onward!
