Daynote - Wed 28 May
And PROJECT SCARLET is done!
Stayed up bit late and skipped my walk again. Whoops. I am bad for this on deadline. But! I got to the end!
ON DECK: An excellent session this morning - I'd forgotten how thick and fast the chapters came at the end of this book, so I flew through them in the edit. I added 49 words overall, but got to the end of the draft. A very satisfying feeling to be pretty much done, two days ahead of my deadline.
Now I'm unsure whether I want to add the epilogue scenes I've been thinking about doing. I have the headroom in the overall draft length, but I'm not actually sure I need them. Something to chat about with my editor perhaps.
LISTENING: A really fascinating interview with Eowyn Ivey over at The Conversation with Nadine Matheson. I love hearing about how people manage their writing lives in different contexts (in this case, rural Alaska).
WATCHING: We finished off this season of THE LAST OF US last night - I'd forgotten how effective the perspective shifts were in the game, and they've followed the beats pretty closely. Looking forward to the third season, though I suspect there'll be a fair wait.
READING: More of BELIEVE last night and I have literally no idea where it's going. Maybe it's just because I'm a novice crime reader, but I'm bamboozled. Intrigued, but no idea how it's going to end.
LINK: The amazing Cymera Festival is holding a fundraising auction and I've got three items in it! You can get a 50 page beta read from me, or get a signed and dedicated hardback copy of A RELUCTANT SPY, or a signed and dedicated paperback. Check out all the amazing listings and get bidding!
UP NEXT: I'm going to mull a bit, check back over my task list and decide what to do about the potential little epilogue scenes. I think there might just be room for un-cutting some of the things I chopped for word count elsewhere in the draft. But I've got two days in hand, so I'm pretty pleased.
Then, next week, Something New! Onward!
