Daynote - Fri 15th May 2026
A very ABYSSAL evening.
Phew, I've had an entirely backwards day today. Last night I was at the Edinburgh launch event for Nick Binge's new novella from Tor Nightfire, ABYSS, which was a brilliant night. Obviously I got home late though. Hence why this post is late in the day.
This morning I had intended to get up at the usual time and get some editing in, but I had to settle for some light marketing admin and travel stuff because my brain was all over the place and I was getting ready to record a podcast with Philippa at Quick Book Reviews (which was fantastic, my episode will be out in early June!). Once that was done, more admin.
ON DECK: I've finally started on the editing but boy it's going slow today. I sometimes compare editing to doing embroidery using rebar as your medium, because unpicking and re-working a section of a novel feels a bit like that. Today is one of those days.
LISTENING: Speaking of Quick Book Reviews, I really enjoyed her interview this morning with Veronica Roth on her new book SEEK THE TRAITOR'S SON - a really good conversation about the ups and downs of major success and building a long-term career.
READING: A tiny bit more SLOW GODS by Claire North (Bookshop, Waterstones, Amazon) when I got home last night. Keeps getting better tbh.

UP NEXT: One more podcast recording due on Sunday, then this extremely hectic week will be done. It's less busy next week (only one podcast recording and one event, phew) which is good because wow I need to make some rapid progress with this novel edit. I am behind and not happy about it.
