Daynote - Fri 21 Aug

A clear morning by the water.

The Edinburgh skyline, across the Firth of Forth

It's a big Writing Friday, but I'm moving slowly - not a huge amount of sleep (thanks, cats) and some errands to run this morning, but I did get out for a rather nice walk first thing. There was some kind of crazy atmospheric lensing going on that made the Firth of Forth incredibly clear, so Edinburgh looked like it was about a mile away (it's more like fifteen miles) and could be easily swum. The photo above doesn't really get across how pin-sharp clear the morning was. It's so cool how different this view looks every single day.

ON DECK: The current plan is to spend the rest of the day trying to get as much of Project VAULT edited as I possibly can - if I can hit the 200 page mark (currently around p44) then I'll be happy. This is a combined line edit, light structural edit and front-to-back readthrough, so it's fairly slow-paced, but once it's done, it's done.

LISTENING: I'm really enjoying Page One's current run of episodes featuring literary agents, and today's episode with Ludo Cinelli is no exception. It's fascinating how differently each agent approaches their work and clients.

WATCHING: Didn't watch anything last night, we were out for a (very nice) birthday dinner in the neighbouring town. Ate too much, as per usual.

READING: I did read a bit more of CRY PILOT by Joel Dane - (Bookshop, Waterstones, Amazon) though, which I'm still greatly enjoying. I sometimes find single POV novels a little monotonous, but that's definitely not the case here - the tight-knit unit at the heart of the book is really well drawn and the multiple overlapping mysteries/tension of waiting to see what's going to happen are excellent.

LINK: The third part of our Narrative Damage playthrough of a Delta Green scenario is live now!

You can check out the first and second parts on Youtube or the podcast feed.

UP NEXT: Editing, editing, editing. Then a chill weekend with a brief trip into town to meet a friend and peruse some books, as well as very likely a bit of gardening.

Then, next week, more editing.

Onward!
