Daynote - Thu 25 Jun
A gently broiling Thursday.
Damn, still glad I'm not down south. Even up here, ten degrees cooler, I slept like absolute shit.
Lovely night last night at Haunted Happenings with my friends MK Hardy and Heba Al-Wasity - it was a really nice event with a great discussion. And I met my former PR person from Headline, Ollie Martin (for the second time in a week, as he was also at Capital Crime) which was lovely. He's at Transworld now, but we chatted about book 2 and how he's finding his new job. Then everyone went to the pub and I got to hang out with my writer pals for the evening, which was a delight.
I then got home and barely slept, but oof, it seems a little cooler this morning? This is exhausting.
ON DECK: As a result of the late night/no sleep/early wakeup combo I didn't get much done today, only 239 very, very slow words. But progress is progress.
LISTENING: Loved this interview on the BFS Podcast with writer pal of mine Katalina Watt, talking about their debut novel SALTSWEPT (Bookshop, Waterstones, Amazon).
WATCHING: Didn't watch anything last night as I was at the above event. But back to WIDOW'S BAY tonight I think.
READING: More of DECEPTION by Alan Parks (Bookshop, Waterstones, Amazon) over lunch yesterday. Nearly done and enjoying it a lot.
LINK: Another discussion came up in the debub Discord I'm guest-mentoring in and I had cause to post this excellent piece my friend Lorraine Wilson wrote a while ago about losing and finding an agent. It's very much worth a read.
UP NEXT: Hopefully better sleep tonight. Then a solid day of drafting tomorrow, one last book event for June and then nothing for a week (until I'm visiting Waterstones Kirkcaldy next Friday).
Next week, I hope mostly to sleep better and be doing edits on Project VAULT. We'll see how it goes.
Onwards!
