A return to sunshine.
The rain has finally stopped, hooray. I built a pergola in our back garden last week in anticipation of spending some summer weekends out there reading or BBQing, but it then immediately rained for six days straight. Ah, Scotland.
Nice walk today though, spotted a couple of deer munching on a downed tree branch, and got the cobwebs blown out (literally, I'm quite often the first person walking along the path I take through the woods so I walk through quite a lot of spiderwebs) by the wind at the beach. Lovely.
I did get some news last night that was a bit of a bummer - a thing I'd hoped might happen isn't going to after all. But it's also good when things do finally resolve, because then I can stop thinking about them and carry on. Ah well, win some, lose some.
ON DECK: A much more serviceable 1,126 words this morning and another scene in the bag. And I'm under 3k away from my 60k goal for the week, so there's a decent chance I might hit it tomorrow with a bit of focus. Feels good, man.
LISTENING: I enjoyed this episode of Good Hang with Anne Lamott, whose book BIRD BY BIRD was one of the first writing books I ever read and which stuck with me.
WATCHING: A bit more HOUSE OF THE DRAGON last night - still really enjoying this season a bunch.
READING: More of GHOST NOTES by Doug Johnstone (Bookshop, Waterstones, Amazon) - I'm in the last hundred pages or so and I'm looking forward to how he's going to tie up the multiple parallel plot threads, including one which has just escalated significantly. I'm interviewing Doug at Fringe By The Sea next week and I'm looking forward to asking him about it.
LINK: Another visit to HUDS + GUIS, the fantastic website that mixes my two major spheres of work - UX design (my dayjob) and writing fiction. This time they're looking at all the cool interfaces and user displays in the second season of ANDOR.
UP NEXT: A busy Writing Friday tomorrow, plus my July newsletter comes out at 10am, and then I'm on holiday! I'd planned on a week, but that wasn't going to cut it, so I'm actually taking two weeks. I can't wait. Updates will, as a result, be pretty light here until mid-August.
