Steady as we go.
Bit of a lie-in today, after a long day in town yesterday and a lot of walking. For once the cats actually let me sleep too, which was a bonus.
ON DECK: And that also translated to some fairly slow writing this morning, but I got a reasonable 706 words. Slow and steady wins the race (though this is slooooow for me).
LISTENING: This season of the excellent Balancing The Books podcast continues to have some fantastic guests. Yesterday's episode with screenwriter and author Rachelle Atalla was a case in point.
WATCHING: I've been keeping an eye on the Apple TV adaptation of cyberpunk classic (and arguably primary genre origin text) NEUROMANCER for the last couple of years and they finally dropped a trailer yesterday:
I'm fascinated by the transition in cyberpunk aesthetics from 'night, rain, neon' to 'daytime, brutalist, chrome' and I genuinely wonder how much the game Cyberpunk 2077 has to do with this shift. Between this adaptation and the upcoming Bladerunner 2099 TV show, it's going to be a pretty cyberpunky winter.
READING: More of GHOST NOTES by Doug Johnstone (Bookshop, Waterstones, Amazon) while travelling and before bed last night and it's unfolding into a pleasingly multi-pronged mystery.
LINK: Spotted in the latest Spybrary dispatch, a timely post from reviewer Jeff Popple about upcoming historical spy thrillers he's excited about. I've recently read and blurbed a couple of period novels myself and sometimes it's nice to get away from the world of digital data, hacking and drones and just have people following each other around and wearing carnations in their buttonholes.
UP NEXT: Back to the walking tomorrow, and hopefully a bit of a chunkier writing day. We shall see.
