Daynote - Tue 3 Feb
Winding through the woods.
Back to the woods this morning, though it was cold, grey and damp. But also! A little bit brighter. And there were snowdrops coming up as well. Hard to believe we're in February, really.
ON DECK: A solid 1,131 words this morning, getting most of a new scene down. I am about to run out of outlined scenes again, since I didn't get a chance to outline this week's work while on various trains at the weekend. I suspect the scenes I do have will get me through to Friday, though. We'll see.
LISTENING: Another excellent episode of Adventures In Publishing Land, covering a wide range of stuff, including editing old books for modern audiences and the crisis in literacy.
WATCHING: We started watching an animated show on Apple TV called WONDLA last night. Short episodes and a very interesting SF setup. I'd never heard of it before it showed up on the preview list on Apple TV, but so far I'm really enjoying it.
READING: I'm in the mood for multi-tasking on several books at once, so last night I started a new book:

I picked up 59 MINUTES by Holly Seddon (Bookshop, Amazon) after hearing the author talking about it on several podcasts. It's a really intricate, real-time, minute by minute account of a nuclear missile alert and the actions several different people take when they believe they have less than an hour to live. I'm not far in, but it's brutally compelling stuff.
LINK: I was really delighted to see a bunch of friends and acquaintances on the Locus Recommended Reading List for 2025, which is a reliably broad survey of the SFF genre published each year. It's an especially good place to find some excellent short fiction recommendations.
UP NEXT: Catching up with post-event laundry and (still) unpacking today. And, of course, still plugging away on Project VAULT. Looking forward to a day of drafting and outlining on Friday too.
Onward!
