Daynote - Wed 21 Jan
A silvery sky.
A slightly curtailed walk this morning, so I took a different route, down to the sea first then returning through my village. So you get a different view this morning. The sky looked marvellous. A tiny bit warmer than yesterday into the bargain.
ON DECK: A bit more manually fighting with Scrivener this morning, so I got the lowish but still satisfying number of 999 words, which is (just) over quota. Still well ahead of my plan, so no worries, but it's always a bit frustrating when drafting time gets lost doing finicky software things.
LISTENING: I really enjoyed this live edition of The Honest Author's Podcast, recorded at Waterstones. Very interesting to hear the hosts Holly Seddon and Gillian McAllister talk about their own work and careers.
WATCHING: We're quite enjoying the new season of FALLOUT at the moment, it continues to be a great blend of original storyline, game references, visual flair and excellent performances. And everyone is obviously having a whale of a time in it.
READING: More of EXCESSION by Iain M. Banks (Bookshop.org, Amazon) and it has reached the mid-tipping-point where all of the carefully laid (and individually quite slow-moving) plot threads begin to come together and it's very satisfying. The very arch and hilarious narrative voice is a joy too.
LINK: Authors Publish is doing a free talk on how to get publicity for your work, with Kindall Gant, a senior publicist at Phaidon. Requires registration, Jan 23rd.
UP NEXT: A day in town for the day job tomorrow, then drafting and outlining on my second Writing Friday! I'm very much looking forward to that.
Onward!
