Couldn't sleep, so I got up early and worked on proofing. I was going slowly though, because I had half an eye on various live feeds. A bit of a relief this morning, that's for sure. My concern is more than academic, as we have friends and family both from and in the US.
No walk this morning, which is a shame because it's a beautiful day, literally and figuratively.
ON DECK: However, I did get through 36 pages of proofing on A TRAITOR'S CALL this morning (told you I was going slowly) which has got me to the 70% mark, with a little over a hundred pages to go. That's comfortably within the target I have now that I also have the weekend to finish and consolidate my proofread with the third party proofread. So that's good. Friday is still going to be meeting heavy, but I've got some good 1-2 hour chunks of time between meetings to get the rest of it done.
LISTENING: I really enjoyed this interview with Thomas Ha on Eating The Fantastic this week. Thomas and I started selling stories around the same time and have shared a couple of TOCs at Clarkesworld, so it's fascinating to hear what drove him to start writing and selling short fiction.
WATCHING: More SLOW HORSES last night, which is winding up to a pretty big finale. It's really clever how they've sutured together two different books in ways which (mostly) don't show the seams. Great adaptation work.
READING: More of THE TRIALS OF EMPIRE by Richard Swan (Bookshop, Waterstones, Amazon) last night, and that too has started escalating pretty drastically. Cracking stuff.
LINK: The single-line-per-paragraph format of this post is annoying, but if you're new to publishing it's a very good primer on not what to do, starting with the title: I Quit My Job After Getting A Book Deal.
UP NEXT: Proofs and meetings, meetings and proofs! All day tomorrow. And, hopefully, a weekend to myself after. Tonight I've got a Narrative Damage recording that I'm looking forward to. And a family birthday party on Saturday.
Onward!
