Figuring out pitches.
No walk this morning - it rained for a solid 20+ hours yesterday, so I decided I didn't want to slog through ankle-deep mud in the woods this morning and had a bit of a lie-in instead. A wise decision, I think.
ON DECK: No words this morning on DRIFT, because I was focusing on pitches instead (hence the header image). I recently put together four possible pitches and this morning's work was to rework one of them to include elements from another. Once I get an idea in my head like that (either from my own mulling or a suggestion from someone else), I find it very hard to focus on anything else until I've figured it out.
So I decided to do that this morning and it was pretty fun! It would definitely be something new for me plot and narrative structure-wise. But for me, trying new things is essential to continuing to grow and evolve as a writer.
LISTENING: I really enjoyed this interview with Phoebe Morgan (aka The Honest Editor on Substack) with the Page One podcast. The current season of publishing people is really excellent and this episode was no exception.
WATCHING: We caught the second episode of ATOMIC last night, the Alfie Allen/Shazad Latif two-hander thriller. It's a lot of fun and a fast-moving crime/espionage mashup.
READING: More of THE POWER OF THE DOG yesterday and it's started to get... grim. Brutally excellent.
LINK: I find myself very intrigued by Valve's recent announcement of a new generation of SteamOS hardware. I'm a Mac guy for doing actual work and Playstation for gaming, but I have a bunch of games in my Steam library and I've often thought about getting a PC for the odd non-Mac/non-console game I want to try. But I just couldn't be bothered faffing with Windows. This looks like it could be tailor-made for that situation. It will all depend on how eye-wateringly expensive it is, of course. And also, my gaming backlog is fairly absurd already...
UP NEXT: Tomorrow I'm off to Denny Library for their first Book Blether event, appearing at 1200hrs after Kate Foster's talk in the morning. I'm really looking forward to it!

If you're thinking of coming along, please do book a ticket and I'll see you there.
Next week I'm back into the drafting on DRIFT (after an exciting conversation on Monday) and on Thursday I'll be heading to Ibrox Library in Glasgow for a Book Week Scotland event.
But first, the weekend. Onward!
