Daynote - Mon 1 Sep

A day in Fife.

My shoes on a train platform edge

Good morning! A new month. How wild is that? No walk this morning as I'm off to Greyhound Rescue Fife with colleagues from my day job. Really looking forward to it and hoping it doesn't rain too much.

ON DECK: A solid pitch-writing session this morning, adding 341 words to the pitch I'm working on. I also have a couple of train journeys to get to/from Fife, so I think I will finish it off on the way. Pretty pleased with this pitch.

TOOLS AND PROCESS: I'm starting to do some brainstorming for various projects, as well as making copious notes, so I've been using my Supernote Manta a bunch. The latest software release (which introduced extensive new functionality to the excellent Digest feature) also seems to have fixed a bunch of minor inconsistencies, bugs and slow-loading elements, so the overall UI feels way snappier and more consistent to use.

LISTENING: I really enjoyed this interview with the crime writer Alex North (aka Steve Mosby) on Writer's Routine - as someone with a TV option I'm hoping will come to something, it's very exciting to hear someone a few years ahead of me talking about writing full time and a film being in production based on his book. And I would be firmly following in his footsteps when it comes to working hours and organising my life.

WATCHING: We watched an episode of KING & CONQUEROR, the new BBC drama about William The Conqueror and Harold Godwinson. It's suffering a bit from 'everyone is smeared in grime so you know it's the olden days' as visual shorthand but it's a lot of fun.

READING: More of TIME WARPED by Adam Simcox last night, which I'm greatly enjoying. Terrific stuff.

LINK: As a natural scruff who's decided to try dressing up a bit for the odd writing-related thing, but who overheats at the drop of a hat, I found this long thread by Derek Guy about lightweight summer clothing options for men absolutely fascinating/useful.

UP NEXT: Greyhounds! Then back to the regular routine tomorrow for the rest of the week. It's a quiet one - no events or anything. Hopefully I'll finish my pitches and get back to DRIFT by the middle of the week.

Onward!
