Daynote - Thu 12 Feb
Down in old London Town.
The view this morning from North London. I had a very nice trip down the country yesterday and got a bunch of admin done on the train. Always feels good to clear a few tasks and have a clean board for the next day.
ON DECK: I'm bopping around London today, starting with an early podcast recording, proceeding to a bit of writing in a cafe somewhere, then lunch with my editor, then coffee with a writer friend (possibly two, if times/locations line up), then back on the train late this afternoon. If I can get 1k words over the course of the day I'll be pleased.
On the train back, I'll be working on a presentation for next week's Napier workshop. And tomorrow, I'll be at Napier delivering this week's workshop. Busy! But happy!
LISTENING: I'm pleased to see No Write Way return and it's started with Matt Dinniman, author of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. I've not read any LitRPG stuff, but I am absolutely fascinated by hybrid authors and how they do what they do, so this is a really interesting episode.
WATCHING: Didn't watch anything last night as I was on a train, then out for dinner with my brother and his fianceé. We went to an awesome Italian place on Holloway Road called Amor, which has vertically stacked tables. It's like eating in a treehouse. And the food was excellent.
READING: A bit more RAT RACE by Callum McSorley (Bookshop, Amazon) on the train down yesterday. I continue to hoot with laughter quietly on every other page.
LINK: A very persuasive piece from Rebecca Solnit in the Guardian on what technology takes from us, and how to take it back. I think about this stuff a lot, although while I find myself nodding along to pieces like this pretty regularly, I never quite take the next step of actually disconnecting, deleting and disengaging. But I'm inching my way up to it.
UP NEXT: As noted, a very busy day in London, then a train trip, then lecturing tomorrow. Then, phew, the weekend.
