No walk this morning, because I got a Very Exciting Email last night and it somewhat kept me awake.

ON DECK: The Very Exciting Email meant I was reading and replying early this morning, so no words, unless you count exclamation marks and excited email replies. Sometimes things just sail right into your inbox out of a clear blue sky and you just have to roll with it.

I also spent a bit of yesterday evening putting my questions together for Gareth Brown, who I'm in conversation with at Waterstones West End tonight at 7pm! Still tickets available if you fancy coming along.

LISTENING: I enjoyed this Nadine Matherson 'coffee break' interview with Vaseem Khan about his new Ian Fleming novel, QUANTUM OF MENACE (which I've just started reading, see below). I met Vaseem twice this year at Capital Crime and Bloody Scotland and I'm looking forward to chairing him and Kim Sherwood at Aye Write in November.

WATCHING: A bit of travel last night, finishing off Simon Reeve's SCANDINAVIA and also watching the first episode of Bettany Hughes' new series of TREASURES OF THE WORLD. Both excellent. I was somewhat distracted by the Very Exciting Email, however.

READING: I finished THE SOCIETY OF UNKNOWABLE OBJECTS yesterday (fantastic) and started on QUANTUM OF MENACE from Vaseem Khan. I've not actually read any of Vaseem's other books, so this is my introduction both to the wider universe of Bond books by other authors and to Vaseem's writing. Having a brilliant time with it so far. It comes out in the UK next week, on the 23rd.

LINK: It's the penultimate day of the Waterstones October Upcoming Titles sale and you can still pick up my next book for 25% off. The sale ends tomorrow, just pop in OCTOBER25 to get your discount.

UP NEXT: Off into town for tonight's event this evening, then tomorrow I will finally, actually, get back to working on the PROJECT DRIFT drafting process. And next week is pretty quiet, so I'm hoping to settle in and make some really solid progress. Onward!
