Daynote - Tue 7 Oct
Pushing ahead with DRIFT.

A bit grey and cold and I got up a bit late, so skipped the walk. Although I'm now hankering for the woods. I try not to miss my walk for more than a day or two in a row, because it feels easy in the moment, but days when I don't get out I'm notably more grumpy. But there's always tomorrow.
ON DECK: Working on the PROJECT DRIFT draft this morning, got a decent 1,072 words. This book is a bit of an experiment for me, especially in the drafting process, and I'm not wholly convinced it's gelling at the moment. I think I may back off from the draft a little in the next week or so and do a tiny bit more high level outlining, just so I don't feel like I'm stumbling through a foggy forest with a broken torch.
LISTENING: I really enjoyed this episode of The Incident Room with Daniel Aubrey, R.S. Burnett and Catherine Yaffe (in a separate interview). I met Sean and Daniel at Harrogate this year and there's a great discussion of how those kinds of events feel for new writers.
WATCHING: A bit more MITCHELL AND WEBB last night. Good stuff. I was also intrigued by this trailer for WE BURY THE DEAD, which looks like a realist zombie movie with distinct 'early days of COVID' vibes.
READING: More SOCIETY OF UNKNOWABLE OBJECTS yesterday as I prep for my event with Gareth next week.
LINK: I had an email recently from Paul Burke (who I know from CrimeTime and CrimeTime FM and very kindly reviewed A RELUCTANT SPY) about his new venture Aspects of Crime - a website and magazine that's just launched its first issue. Well worth checking out if you're a crime and thriller fiction fan.
UP NEXT: More drafting, with a bit of outlining on the side. Then off to town on Friday to look after River The Dog again and a weekend of dogwalking, catching up with reading and noodling with outlines.
Onward!
