Daynote - Wed 11 Feb
Choo choo off we go again.
I didn't get out for a walk this morning, but I did get out for a run, in the drizzle. It was the pinch point in Week 5 of Couch to 5k where you do eight minutes running, followed by five minutes of walking, then another eight minutes of running. Boy, those second eight minutes really sucked.
But, I did it and got home and now I'm settling down to write for the morning.
ON DECK: Today is a travel day, but my train to London doesn't leave until this afternoon, so I'm going to pack, then get the day's word count done before I head out. I have a bunch of non-writing admin tasks and documents to produce for folks that will lend themselves well to sitting on a train, so I'm hoping to clear most/all of those on my two train trips this week.
LISTENING: An excellent episode of Better Offline with Cal Newport, talking about the pitfalls of how 'AI' is reported on. It's good to have terms for the wilful distortions and biases I'm seeing constantly that make me want to scream.
WATCHING: An excellent episode of A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS last night, which has significantly upped the stakes. I'm really enjoying this series and its relatively small scope. And I do like the idea of stories set before or around the main arcs of a fictional world. The ANDOR-ification of franchise media, if you like. Especially when they're good.
READING: Still reading RAT RACE by Callum McSorley (Bookshop, Amazon) - I'll be taking it with me to London and I'm hoping to finish it while I'm there.
LINK: I'm late to this, but I really enjoyed this post by Veronica Roth on how she feels about her breakout novel DIVERGENT, fifteen years after it was published. I think there's a lot here relevant to any writer thinking about their older work, not just those looking back on the inevitable mixed emotions that come with stratospheric success.
UP NEXT: Time to pack my bags, write some words then get on a train.
Onward!
