Daynote - Wed 15 Oct
Back home and back to copyedits.
Back home, but not quite back to the routine. I was up late reading for my event tomorrow, so I skipped the walk and just cracked on with the last bit of copyediting on the next book.
I also had a brilliant time last night chatting to the reviewer and awards judge AJ Hawley for his podcast 'AJ Hawley's World of Crime'. The episode is already up and you can listen on Spotify or the embedded player below.
ON DECK: There was an unresolved query from the first round of copyedits that I spoke to my editor Toby about on Monday, so I did another pass through the whole manuscript yesterday and today, making sure everything was consistent. I just finished that this morning and sent it back, so now I believe we're off to production, typesetting and proofreads.
LISTENING: I really enjoyed this interview with William Boyd on the Books of the Year podcast with Simon Mayo. Although the number of times they said the phrase 'reluctant spy' at the beginning of the episode (when describing William's character, Gabriel Dax) felt a bit odd. A bit like when I read Isabel J. Kim's Day Ten Thousand and nearly every paragraph includes the name 'Dave'.
WATCHING: Bit of BAKE OFF last night. And MITCHELL AND WEBB. The 'Weeping Shed' sketch was absolutely brutally funny in the latter.
READING: More of THE SOCIETY OF UNKNOWABLE OBJECTS last night. Nearly done and it's a cracker.

UP NEXT: Prepping for my event with Gareth Brown tomorrow at Waterstones West End in Edinburgh. And tomorrow morning I'll be back to the drafting process on PROJECT DRIFT. Onward!
